Sunset & St. Marks The finest upcoming artists from Los Angeles, Miami, Boston and New York City. July 15 - July 23 Opening night with the artists: Saturday, July 14th 7:00 - 10:00 pm Capla Kesting Fine Art is excited to announce its second annual group show: Sunset & St. Marks, a convocation of the finest upcoming artists from Los Angeles, Miami, Boston and New York City, featuring the work of: Eduardo Benedetto, Colin Burns, Daniel Edwards, Steve Ellis, Jonny Fenix, Steven Gagnon, Jason Douglas Griffin, David Hochbaum, Justin Kirchoff, Martina Kubinyi, Travis Lindquist, Goldmine Shithouse, David Stoupakis, Dave Tree and Kevin Willis. Sunset and St. Marks concentrates on the artist's reaction to the inconsistencies of the modern American dream; piercing the suburban veneer of perfection and revealing the weak infrastructure of war, cultural imperialism, outsourcing and prejudice that America has constructed itself on. Curator Travis Lindquist has gathered talent from around the country to show us that, despite our differences, there is still a dissident voice trying to reunite the United States."I think that living in one of the most wealthy and advanced countries of the world, these artists are grateful for the luxurious conditions we are accustomed to, but at the same time they are aware of the paradox this creates. Our luxury is paid for by the destruction of so many other things. Our way of life results in the downfall of other, less privileged societies." In accordance with the bi-coastal tradition Sunset & St Marks will have a second showing in Los Angeles later this year. Founded in October of 2003 by artists David Kesting and Lincoln Capla, Capla Kesting Fine Art has become synonymous with the exposure of underground artists. Created primarily as a venue to expose their work, and that of their talented group of friends CKFA has developed a reputation for their off the beaten path approach to advancing the public’s knowledge of premier talents that demand our attention. “We’re not here making
a statement. We’re just showing art we think deserves to be shown. The
goal and whole idea of the place is to help bring artists that we respect
and enjoy to the attention of the public.” - Capla Kesting Fine Art
